Web GIS
WebGIS and the Internet
The
Internet has become the primary means of making
information accessible at home or work at any time of
day. WebGIS adds GIS maps and related information to
this ever growing communications network.
Open Source Web GIS
For
putting GIS maps on the Internet, WTH has developed
WTH Mapserver™. This allows WTH to eliminate the
restrictive and costly licensing fees normally
associated with Web GIS while offering a software
product that connects well with proprietary GIS and
database software, as well as other Open Source
alternatives.
OpenGIS Compliant
WTH
MapServer™ is also OpenGIS compliant and it meets the
standards set by the internationally recognized Open
Geospatial Consortium for the sharing of Web GIS
information.
WTH MapServer™ Web Sites
WTH
has put together a WTH MapServer™ hosting program that
makes it easy for an organization to add a Web GIS map
viewer to a new or existing web site. When combined
with UDX® data sharing software, a WTH MapServer™ web
site can be updated with new GIS information on a
continuous basis.
